Lithium fluoride is a tetragonal crystal system, the crystal growth can be single polycrystalline blocks or directional growth of single crystals. Therefore, there is a difference between monocrystalline and polycrystalline lithium fluoride. Polycrystalline lithium fluoride is mostly used as protective windows; monocrystalline lithium fluoride is suitable for lenses, prisms and observation windows.
Applications of LiF windows
1. X-Ray monochromator
2. Vacuum ultraviolet
3. X-ray diffraction devices
4. Deep UV technology
